Functional Movement Screen (FMS)
The FMS is a series of movement tests designed to look at movement patterns that are part of normal function. It identifies not only individuals who may be at risk of injury as activity levels rise, but individuals who have current weaknesses, imbalances, and overall limitations that are impacting their daily quality of life. The most basic movement pattern limitations can reduce the effects of functional training, physical conditioning, and distort proprioception (body awareness) which may lead to injury down the road. Each employee will be given a beneficial corrective exercise program specifically targeted to restore mechanically sound movement patterns based on their needs.
The typical western worker suffers from low back pain, knee pain and headaches. Many of these symptoms are related to poor posture and muscular control and are easily treated with a simple corrective exercise regimen. The National Safety Council stated that in 1996, backaches alone cost business and industry more than $1.2 billion in production and services and $275 million in worker’s compensation (Source: The American Council on Exercise, ACE Fitness Matters, January/February 2006).
